Administrators JeroenPeters Posted January 16, 2019 Administrators Share Posted January 16, 2019 Another in between project that I wanted to do since I visited the Blockhaus D’Eperlecques. A most impressive installation where V2’s were assembled and launched. It was too visible, bombed and operations moved to La Coupole close by. I bought a piece of V2 skin and will display the rocket on it’s cradle together with this relic. Not sure of the scheme yet. I’ll mount the rocket and scheme on a high round wooden base. I think

Wumm
If the compound is still there after being bombed, you are probably fortunate there is still something to visit! As with all your Plinth-mounted works, looking forward to this one J.

Administrators JeroenPeters Posted January 18, 2019 Author Administrators Share Posted January 18, 2019 Some progress. The cradle is done. The rocket itself is big but consists out of a few parts. Fun will start with the painting.

Administrators JeroenPeters Posted January 20, 2019 Author Administrators Share Posted January 20, 2019 Thnx guys! Not a lot of bench time this weekend, but i did manage to find good reference photo's to open the panels i wanted. These give access to the Nitro tanks. The top section consists out of 4 quadrants. The others open up to the Funk Gerät. I'll scratch the doors and interior.

GusMac
Is the plywood just a liner for mounting the tanks?

I would think so. There’s an aluminium internal frame that should have created the needed strength.
GusMac
Thanks Jeroen. The open hatches should certainly add some real interest to the build.

Administrators Clunkmeister Posted January 22, 2019 Administrators Share Posted January 22, 2019 Jeroen, these weren't guided were they? I thought they were purely ballistic. Why would they need a radio system, or is it a proximity fuse or something to arm the warhead once it was safely on it's way?
Martinnfb
Yes some of them use radio transmitters to stay on course and for engine cut-off developed by Siemens?.

Neat. You learn something new every day. I actually thought they were a "by gosh and by golly" 'set it and forget it' missile. Light the fuse and where it lands, it lands.
