So this will be my first post on this thread... as I have purchased stuff in the past and not thought it was really worth talking about, model stuff that probably isn't all that interesting...........

Shadow arrived yesterday, 7 week old German Shepherd pup:

In another thread, I mentioned how weak I was, piling up a number of « must buys » on my 2020 shopping list. Well, I got the first of those, a rather smallish box, that fits nicely on my bench

it's not "big enough" to post the build on LSM

Bring it on, we have a 'non LSM WIP or completed' section here, which some of us frequently use. I even had a 1/144 build there once :D.

Cheers Rob

I got this Hobby Boss "Dora" Railway Gun. In 1:72 scale, it's not "big enough" to post the build on LSM, even though the finished model will be almost 44 inches in length. :D

Surely we should be pushing for a 1/32 ( or 1/35 corrected ) scale model! has anyone a 3d printer ready to take on this?

It's been a while since I had anything to post here ...

This book arrived a couple of weeks ago - another great book from Rich at Chandos Publications:

vrBSXdf.jpg

But I knew this box was on the way so I thought I'd wait ...

tnkkpAC.jpg

Because its a bulk purchase they sent one of these ... TBH I'd rather a $50 voucher for Dan Murphys so I can grab a carton of Crownies and watch the footy.

1/35 scale is good for dioramas .... But I've decided that bigger is better for stand alone displays and so this is my first foray in 1/16 with more on the way ...

And ... I know, I KNOW it's a turd ... but all those nose guns ... and someone is bound to make some AM corrections.

Oi Rog,
What's the early (16003) Luchs like? Good, bad, indifferent?
Was it from Metro?
Cost?
Jesus, I'm annoying some days!!

Rog, nice new additions. What's the Luchs look like in the box?

The Chandos book is quite nice. I've been slowly reading my copy.

Carl

Excellent - but Dragonesque in terms of parts count ... It's going to be a major project.

It's also Big ... the turret is nearly the size of my palm ... parts look to be nicely detailed

From what I can tell with a quick look - They are both the same with different markings - and the 4th Pz Div has some extra dressy bits (like a stack of Jerry Cans) I think ... I'll have a closer look on the weekend. The kit itself (as stated above) looks rather parts heavy ... Yes it was from Metro's (I had them on back order as - at the last re-stock done, they disappeared rather quick). Cost is $190 AUD with free shipping (domestic) - pretty good for a 1/16 kit.

I've got my eye on a Panther G if Trumpy doesn't hurry up with me Pz.Kfpw.III Ausf.M ... and I want to have a shot at backdating the Pz.Kfpw.IV Ausf.F2 to a north African F.1 - I may even try to backdate a III.M to a J for the same sort of deal.

The hardest bit is going to be chasing up a Takom Pz.I Ausf.A ... (although I think these are being reissued as an Ausf.B) ... and I need to find a a Panda Pz.38(t)

Some packets from Germany just arrived, the last ultimate wish I had concerning WNW kits was the Fokker D.1 and I finally managed to get one of the last and added some Gaspatch 08/15 for the Junkers and anothe Fokker. Sometimes I've to ask myself, why I haven't ordered the D.1 before :hsmack:.

The Camel was more of an accident, just because it was there, or because my WNW stash is to biased to German planes. The reason for that is in the least a kind of nationalism, but interesting paintwork, great design and no flat rigging ;) .
I considered all the different Camels and went with the Le Rhone one, because it has a brilliant paintjob, the blue 'Suds' and will receive a Lukgraph resin engine (if it fits) and some other goodies.

Last but not least, I got a T34/85 with added bedspring armor. One of those was in front of my grandparents house in the final days of WW2. It will be fitted with at least one figure in front as a little dio.

It's a nice feeling finding a kit one's been looking for.

Indeed it is, Carl. I would like to get more while they're still available, but funds are limited these days!

Ok ... So the latest batch of stuff arrived and ... A really big box at my front door today ...

BAtw9Jw.jpg

A Tiger and a Pz.IV Ausf.H

pCgyb6R.jpg

VX3CwOQ.jpg

Pulled the turret out of both for an idea of the scale ...

2nTD2Rn.jpg

nY5LuBn.jpg

Conclusion: 1/16 Scale is freaking HUGE :D

I have a couple more on the way ... Once I have a look through the kits and see what AM needs I have for each, I'll pick one to do a WIP.

It seems it's unlikely to be the Tiger - I've ordered a metal barrel already, knowing that the kit didn't have one.

The Hobby Boss kit seems to be a very simplified one with a couple of small accuracy issues ... As a stark comparison, there is the Trumpeter Kit - which comprises of a multitude of parts, with PE, Copper cable and a turned metal barrel included in the kit.

Loving it so far ...

Nice score Rog. The idea of a 1/16 tank does appeal, so interesting to hear that you feel the HB kit is a bit simple. That would certainly be reflected in the relative prices of them over here. The T-72 might tempt me yet as I grew up wargaming with those Cold War beasts.

The Hobby Boss Tiger's simplicity is certainly reflected in the price! ... Although it does have just about everything you'd need to create a decent static display model. There's a lot of "moulded on" stuff - yet the detail isn't poorly defined. Theres very little internal detail ... I've purchase an AM Aber metal barrel - which cost about 2/3 of the kit price and really is a necessity on anything this size. You can tell by the gear wheel for the turret that this kit was originally designated as an RC unit. The reality is - apart from a few small errors that you can find with a quick Google search, and a lack of interior detail (which won't make any difference if you keep the hatches buttoned up or stuff a figure in there) - It should build nicely!
