On with the Chinese Tankette. The thing got a gloss coat for decaling and dark brown panel liner and will be flat coated for further weathering.
I painted the figure with the base colors, which shadows and more highlighting to follow, as well as appropriate dulling. Cloth very matte leather with a slight shine,...
The worst were the eyes, where you can see the right eye being painted very bad. This is caused by umpteen repaints due to me being not able to place the Archer eyeball transfer in place and in one :icon_eek:. These decals need to be cut all around the iris and slightly more on top and bottom. the micro decal has then to be slid from the transfer without being destroyed, a nearly impossible task, at least for me. It worked by accident on the right eye with the second try, but the right took six tries, before I surrendered, destroying the eye and surrounding face multiple times. Boy, do I love the idea of decaling eyeballs :censored:.

Cheers Rob

One thing I learned reading the advice from various masters is that the human eyes are seldom wide open. The eyelids are most often partly closed on the eyeball. Repainting the eyelids in a way to cover most of the eyeballs would greatly enhance the eyes of your tankette guy.

Thanks Hubert, I did exactly that with the right eye. I cut the iris to fit, a bit on the lower side and a bit more on the upper side. The left eye was ruined through the many tries of getting it right though. I think I will make an eyepatch for the right eye as first, it looks cool and second, I cant see that eye anymore.

What's on my bench? Flowers! As the Normandy bocage battles took part in summer time period, obviously i would have to add a little bit of colour to the dio. I don't want to over do it though

This is going to be a stunning dio, love the attention to detail….

Looks great Rob. I painted the eyes when I did the figure. I was wondering about the

Archer eyes. I had seen them advertised on the archer website and thought about giving them a

try. I still have a lot to learn about painting realistic faces on figures, but I do enjoy painting them. I still have the figure from the Takom Ft-17 to paint......the guy with the

chain mail face covering, fortunately for me most of his face is covered. Anyway, your

figure and tank look great.

Sue dropped her favourite coffee mug. She found most of the pieces to it.

I broke out the epoxy and tried to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

Still missing a couple bits. I told her not to use it anymore except as a pen holder.

Well done and I’m sure in Sue’s eyes, you put your hobby skills to some very good use.

Nice progress and those eyeballs - I know I would never have the patience to even attempt using Archer Eye Decals -

Thanks to both of you. It was my first try with the Archer decals. I had high hopes, using them, but stalled while trying so. The biggest problem is, they are printed onto the decal carrier, which is not cookie cut. That would 've made it easier to slide the tiny thingies off the backing paper. The other prob is, they are very fragile and I damaged some, while trying to position them.
Another thing, I didn't like was, that I bought a set, which Archer claims to be used from 54 mm up. This figure is double the size and the smallest supplied eyes are barely small enough.
Enough ranted, the very well casted or printed figure deserves better. Maybe I give it another try with trusty old hand painting.

Agreed and a boat load of work for sure. I'm completely in agreement that the good old brush might be the best plan of action.

Rob I really like the look of that figure except for the eyes.

I’m pretty much a novice figure painter, so there’s probably a lot better advice than mine.  I find my eyes look best when I do the least to them.  Just a tiny bit of off white and a small gray dot for the iris and pupil.

Keep rocking it!

Looks a little like he just had a bit of the marching powder! Figure does look great. I dont even try to paint them

Gracias Hombres, I know, the eyes suck. I had another go at them yesterday, but to no avail. I think I will perform some plastic surgery and cut the goggles from the leather cap :D.

Cheers Rob
