mmmm wibs.

I haven't had a hamburger, steak, or pork for 2-1/2 months, I also cut the sugar drastically and began brisk walking 2.5 miles a day.

All its been is chicken and turkey products, but I have lost close to 25 pounds and still dropping.

Doc had a conversation with me about where I was heading and I took this option.

I don't want any part of the beetes.

Like other comments, I cut down my meat intake, well my dog now do gets more BBQ chicken these days. I do eat meat, but mostly a lot of fish, and vegetables in various bakes are very tasty. In fact eating meat again is quite a disappointment, you realise that it was the veggies that gave all the taste on past dishes. The crunch came recently when I did a regular blood test with my GP. I was worried that from my standard decades long 80/81kg I had lost weight, and had past my goal of my more teenage 75kg and had actually hit 74, 73, and ever 72 after some lockdown stunt gardening projects. So worried I was spiralling out of control, I did the blood tests. My Doctor called to say everything was ok, in fact whatever I was doing was it was the best i have ever been on all counts for my past 15 years. To me it was not cutting out Alcohol, or dieting, but to quit snacks and just eating more veg. especially using up old veg in making soups. Nothing radical, its saves money. But do watch and avoid how much sugar ( especially corn syrup sugar ) is in the food you buy. better still just buy fresh local produce, be it veggies, fish, meat and use it all up as leftovers.

Well said.

My heaviest was around 225 and I'm 5-11 so not too bad...... at least that's what I thought.

Doc wants me at 190 but even at that I think i'm still classified as overweight!

In HS I was 170 plus or minus, but bone skinny!

My wife went to the doctor and is told she meets enough criteria for a Covid 19 test.  So, I call my employer and have a chat with a supervisor about my responsibilities and their action plan.   I explain that it will take two days to get the result, and since the test is being taken Thursday morning, I wont see the results before Monday.   "Stay at home until you get the results", he says.

Well done to both of you for doing the right thing and not trying to push through Gaz...

It's always difficult with the variety of symptoms that may be associated with Covid-19. Many are Flu or Head Cold indicators as well, which I guess is an out for those who want to keep working for whatever reasons. My Wife has no sick days left until September, so that's a possible issue if for us if we have to isolate for a fortnight. We haven't downloaded the Government App, as there's no-one apart from co-workers that I would be around for more than 15 minutes... But then you have to rely on others to do the right thing. She has had the Flu shot through her Work, I have not as yet; my attitude is that if I'm practicing Social Distancing and wearing gloves and mask so as not to get Covid-19, I shouldn't be at risk of Flu either. If I get a day off somewhere along the line, I may as well though.

Hopefully your time off is fruitful, and that the both of you get well and back to being productive soon.

False Positives, and False Narratives.

OK, so now this morning it turns out that the deceased Man from Blackwater that I made mention of last week has now tested negative to Covid-19 during a later Autopsy. So either he's the first recorded case to make a full recovery from the disease after actually dying, or the initial post mortem test was a false positive. After thousands in the town were tested and isolated for no apparent reason, this has got a lot of people very, very angry.

Somehow, a Nurse who was working at an Aged Care Facility in Rockhampton 200 km away became implicated in this man's positive diagnosis. The Government is alleging that she lied to Government Officials after testing positive. It has been alleged that she failed to tell Officials that she had been overseas at the end of March, that she failed to tell them she had gone to Blackwater to check out a possible job interview in April, and that she went to work while showing symptoms after being tested but before her results were confirmed. The Nursing Union is backing her, claiming the Government is making her a Scapegoat to keep the borders closed. Her workplace is a State Government run facility, the Union claims the State should have stopped her coming to work as she was never told at any point not to do so. The State Member of Parliament is calling for her to be sacked and criminally charged. Of course, there is an Election due later this year.

Not as tumultuous as other parts of the world but nevertheless, watch this space.

Meanwhile, the Tanzanian President claims the Country has beaten the Virus using only the power of Prayer.

https://time.com/5841441/tanzania-coronavirus-defeated-prayer/

Either that, or it might be because they just stopped testing people on the 8th of May. No tests, ergo no-one tests positive. Why didn't we think of that?

I'm actually more upset that all of the locking down really made no difference overall, and just led to the ruin of lives and small businesses.

But I knew this was going to be the case. However, most people thought it a good idea to listen to 'experts' who kept changing their policies/guidelines and moving goalposts.

I'm busier than ever.

And now they want covid shields for the re-openings forthcoming.

How fortunate to have 4 full sheets of plexi to offer my customers.

The first job , i just quoted , I came in at half the other guy.

Must be nice to have no conscience , lol , my customer and I agreed he was most likely trying to gouge.

A business like mine , driven by me and surviving solely on my own personal production and sales , will always survive.

As sales drop in one area or product , production and promotion of other areas goes forward.

It has not and will never occur to me to take a handout form our government , it will ALL have to be paid back.

We have zero to none as far as leadership goes in this country , Canadian citizens are revenue generation units to the country's politicians.

We're extremely fortunate here in Au, that we're isolated down at the end of the Earth. For once, the tyranny of distance is working for us, and not against. We went hard early with border control; not as severely as New Zealand and the Polynesian Islands, but it still probably ended up saving thousands of lives.

I look at Brazil... A large Southern Hemisphere National in summer when this started much like us, but without the benefit of being an Island Continent and the inherent security that affords. Australian cases March 26...

IMG_20200602_145121.thumb.jpg.9975d0bbbc5497f399b49417f1cf463e.jpg

And now today, Australia... 7204 total

IMG_20200602_144601.thumb.jpg.b8f0b45f9299c6d3510ede20490439ef.jpg

And Brazil... Half a million and counting.

It's a big deal here when they discover another new case. We truly don't know how good we have it.

Well it finally happened, been furloughed for three weeks. It’s fine because it gives me a little more protection for the next 5 months, after that who knows. So the question is, three weeks of solid benchtime or house maintenance and DIY projects.........hmmmm the it’s a dilemma...........also after I complete the F4 and Camel, which are close, what will be the next project......all suggestions welcome.....:D

I got Furloughed early on, so had 4 weeks off, an extension to my normal 2 off, but got called back and been balls to the walls since. Fly air medical transport and we have had a few suspect cases, but mostly just sick people... But the post flight routines have changed lots... Never had a machine so clean on the insides...

Not much time for modeling even wit my 2 extra weeks of holidays though, as I had a project at my trailer. We are on a seasonal spot, and are working on beautifying and personalizing it...

you don’t see many Lizzies built, the Mossie concerns me as so many people burn out on it........

I know the exact cause of the burnout when I built my Mossie. I had used the kit seat belts and hated the way they had turned out. At the same time, I was building the HK Mossie. So I shelves the Tamiya one and finished the HK. Harv gave me the encouragement to get the Tamiya one done about a year later and I did.

Otherwise, the kit doesn't have any hangups or downfalls.  She's just like all the other recent Tamiya kits. Only more so...:D

Today I took my Dog to the Vet for her yearly shots. I was allowed to go into the Surgery with her as I was the only non-staff member present. Last month when it was my Wife's Dog's turn, they made us wait at the car as there was another person with their Dog already inside. They take social distancing seriously there.

Conversely, ten thousand or more people crammed into the streets of Brisbane yesterday, for a BLM protest. Ironically, many of them were Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, who Health Authorities have warned all along are much more at risk of the Covid-19 Virus. You might say none of them took social distancing seriously.

Not a commentary on the BLM movement, but merely one on human nature. Sometimes people are their own worst enemy.

Okay, so I have an interesting Covid-19 story to tell:

At the tail-end of May, my family began preparing for the graduation ceremony for my oldest daughter from high school. The plan was for a monitored event with distancing between family groups (Only two guests were allowed, generally mom and dad) and asking us to keep on masks until we were seated. Okay, better than no ceremony, although as a teacher at the school my wife lost the opportunity to be on stage when our daughter stepped across the dais. She had been dreaming of this moment for years.

We had family and friends invited for a graduation party on the Sunday before graduation, and so after work each day I was coming home and prepping the back yard, hauling lawn furniture, mowing, cleaning the house, etc to get ready. I was getting myself a little exhausted but hoped to catch up on rest the following week. Both of my sisters-in-law came to stay and bedrooms were reassigned, with me in the eldest's room while my three ladies stayed together in the master BR. The air is finicky in parts of the house so that room runs a bit warm but I had a fan to help. During all of this the honeysuckle outside was giving me fits allergy-wise so I've been taking Letocetirizine every night to minimize post-nasal drip.

On to Sunday, and the party. I ran out to get the fajita buffet from our local Moe's and returned to finish set-up before the other guests started arriving. There was already a little tension under everything as my younger sis-in-law is a major flake (She sat in her car for half an hour after I asked her to please not park on my lawn) and the three sisters had been fighting. Add to this I was already having trouble dealing with the fact my child would soon be leaving our nest. After eating, we played a game and while sitting in the dining room I noticed my heart was a little racy and I felt warm; I ended up going to lay down a bit. MY brother-in-law, a nurse from Shand's Hospital in Gainesville, FL, said later I looked like I was having a panic attack. A little bit after coming back out, I entered the kitchen to get a drink and more food. With both hands filled, I pivoted on my right foot, stepped forward with my left, and heard our new puppy cry out as my pivoting boot heel went across his paw (Isn't it cute how puppies and kittens get right up under you?). In my attempt to not crush a baby's foot I lifted up on my right foot even though my left was not planted yet. I began to fall. Twisting around to see where I was falling--and to make sure it wasn't on the puppy--I ended up coming down hard on my right hip and slammed both forearms down on a wooden kitchen chair. I got up as quickly as I could and tried to brush it all off as no big deal, but it was. I already suffer from lower back pain, and my right shoulder has been having rotator cuff issues the past few months. But I am sort of a Stoic so I blew it off. Yes, I know. I retired from the party after that, and sat in my man cave trying to calm down.

Then Monday arrives. I work a half-day at work so I can get home to ready for graduation. If you check the pic you can imagine why this was such an important deal for my daughter. Fourth in a class of nearly 400,  International Baccalaureate Honor graduate with distinction, National Honor Society with distinction, National Spanish Society plus the ONLY student to receive the Georgia Seal of Biliteracy, student of the month every year, just so much. High school was her focus; she loves learning so much and the thought that she might not get to show her peers her accomplishment was eating me up (like many parents I'm sure). Event started a 7pm, but we got there at 6pm to drop her off and drop my wife off to get in line for a good seat. My wife discovered during rehearsal that there was a great spot where we could see her the whole time. We stand in line until allowed entrance and then filter in to get our seats in the visitors' bleachers. The effective temperature was in the high 80's at that point. I am a pale old white dude of Irish ancestry, so I was loving it and of course I brought no hat or sunscreen because I am also stubborn. So by the end of the event I had a mild sunburn on the top of my head. On the way home I'm not feeling great, so I drop my wife and daughter off at at relative house in the same neighborhood and I go home to have some chicken noodle soup. I can't finish my soup as it tastes way too salty (It was Campbell's, so it's always a bit salty). I go to bed.

Tuesday morning, I wake up feeling crap, and call out of work after promising to go see about a Covid-19 swab to make sure it wasn't that. I work as a teacher in a mental treatment facility that serves teenage violent and sex offenders, so I could not return without proof I was clean. Can't see the doctor until Wednesday afternoon. I am told because of my symptoms I will have to wait outside in the parking lot until the nurse-practioner calls me to meet her at the downstairs elevator. Well, the effective temp that day was 94°F, and even parked in a shady spot and occasionally running the car and AC to cool off, it was still miserable. We wait and wait and no call is coming. My wife and I take turns asking if I will be seen soon and we keep getting blown off, "Oh, yes, yes, it will be soon. TWO HOURS LATER I am told she will meet me at the elevator. I walk in and she is not there. I go to the second floor, still not there. I sit down long enough to send an angry text to my wife when the nurse pops her head out a rear door to the office and brings me in.

Now, I would like anyone with a medical background to pay attention. She hooks my up with a blood pressure belt and clips my finger with a pulse reader and gets a 122/68 and a 89 pulse. She takes my temp with the point'n'shoot gun (remember, I just came in out of the Georgia heat with only five minutes to chill out) and writes what looks to be a temp in the 90's on a piece of paper. She told me the other vitals, but not this one for some reason. She asks me what has been going on and I as I am talking, proceeds to listen to my chest. Now, I am not taking deep breaths as I am talking but neither does she ask me to stop for a second. She then tells me my capacity is diminished by 93% (but writes 94% on the report, where she also recorded a temp of over 100°). She asks if I'm having shortness of breath; I say no except if I breathe too deep and it sets off the stitch in my right shoulder blade from my fall--which I told her about. She writes down I am having shortness of breath. She prescribes me some meds--more Letocetirizine, an antibiotic (for Covid? No, just in case there is something else in there. I don't take AB's for now reason.), a cough suppressant and a Covid swab. Fine, had to have it in order to return to work. Nurse goes out to get the test ready, but several minutes later another nurse comes in to say the testing window closed at 445pm (It was 453pm when she tells me this) and I have to come up to the hospital tomorrow for the swap. Oh good. All that wait for no answers, no test, and no permission to return to work.

I go get my test on Thursday. It is 1030am, and they tell me result turnaround is 24-48 hrs, but I should have them by Friday. Friday comes without a call. I inform work I have nothing yet. I don't even know what time I have for this as I had to use a lot of sick days on emergency dental work last Fall and my wife's cataract surgery in February. Not happy. In the meantime I have been self-exiled in my child's bedroom, eating some old oxycodones from the rotator issue I had in the left shoulder last year. Only thing giving me relief from my back pain but not practical at work. Oh, I forgot--they prescribed me Tylenol even after I told them I don't feel Tylenol. I have to eat the maximum dose of ibuprofen to even get partial relief from my back, but whatever.

So, fast-forward to Sunday, I text my boss to say I am not cool with coming in without the results as the facility director is a douche and is taking this whole pandemic as seriously as MSNBC fans. I tell him if they call early with the results, I will come in a finish out the day because we currently have 5 vacancies and several other sick personnel so in reality we are completely out of ratio in terms of staff-to-clients and that is a big regulatory no-no that gets people fired.

It is now today, and I am getting worried because they haven't called yet and it is almost lunch time. They take lunch from 12pm-130pm so I know they won't call then and my 'school' day ends at 3pm. I call, and after being hung up on by the answering system finally get through. The woman on the phone sees nothing in my record and says she will shoot a message to the nurse to call me. I wait. It is now 432pm and the office closes at 5pm, so I call to see WTF is going on. It goes straight to the answering system , which informs that the office is currently closed and to call back during normal business hours (remember what time it is when I call) and to call 911 if there is an emergency. So, another day missed and still no results. I have people telling me their tests had results back in 45 mins. WHAT!?

I basically feel they cost me an additional two days of lost work, which may or may not be paid, and left me unaware of what to say to all who came to the party. I actually didn't get close to anyone as I am an asshole who doesn't like getting near people anyway, but my wife has asthma and this is stuff I kinda need to know. My mother-in-law, former ACLU PR person and TDS sufferer who is convinced masks will need to be worn at least two more years (She works in Manhattan) demanded I stop seeing that doctor, but that was already my plan.

So, anyway, that's my new Covid-19 story about my worst week ever this year.

On the plus side, I learned how to make aircraft aerials from my wife's long, black hair over the weekend.

Firstly, I completely agree with your Mother-in-Law...

I would immediately find another Medical Practicioner. You presented with the combination of relatively low blood pressure with elevated heart rate, upper chest pain, shortness of breath, and elevated temperature and stress levels after being made to wait in a hot car for hours. Rather than Covid-19, you would think they would be more concerned about the risk of stroke or heart attack. A thorough examination by a Doctor should have eliminated those concerns, but that's not a Nurse's call to make.

The trouble with this thing is that it mimics the symptoms of non-related health issues. Despite our current advanced state of Medical and Scientific knowledge, human nature still tends to overwhelm common sense. Every small symptom suddenly indicates 'Covid-19', much as snow in April is invariably due to 'Climate Change.'

You've certainly had a stressful week Cat. Hopefully you come up clear of the Virus, your shoulder heals, and you can continue to take pride in your Daughter's achievements despite the small disappointments that arose at the finish.

i hope everything turns out OK for you in the end, CAT.

A word of warning about using hair for aerials. Hair are sensitive to ambient humidity. Which means your antennas will sag if the atmoshpere gets a bit humid, as the hair gets longer.

So it's definitely not as good as other materials like stretched sprue, monofilament or elastic yhread ;)

Take care.
