1to1scale Posted August 22, 2020 Share Posted August 22, 2020 I have a terrible confession to make, recently, I have....sigh. I have been lusting after, then now buying...1/48 scale kits. Oh the shame. It started with the Mig-25, then the F-22. But I told myself, it’s OK, as I can’t get them in 1/32. And I built an A-7E, that was for a commission, so I told myself it’s OK. ...but them the disease started to progress. Everyone talked about the New Tamiya P-38, and I had to do it, the hobby shop had one...and I didn’t. So I fixed that. Then I accidentally ordered The Tamiya F-14A, and then the Mk.1 Spitfire, the the BF-109 G6, tonight I looking at F4U porn. The one I bought is the Firefox Mig-31 and is the only IM kit available of that plane. Does that get me a pass? The other is a F-15J Kai, also a fictional subject. Always remember there used to be a railway modelling magazine here in the UK exclusively for finescale 00 gauge referred to as P4 / EM. 1to1scale Posted August 22, 2020 Author Share Posted August 22, 2020 In all seriousness, I can churn out a 1/48 aircraft in a 1/3 the time it takes to build a 1/32, especially when it’s a high quality brand like Tamiya. And the since most of what I bought in 1/48 can’t be had had in 1/32, it’s an acceptable excuse. And sometimes you need an easy Tamiya build to get your mojo back. And to be fair, I’m working on and almost done with the 1/35 AH-1Z, that’s another easy and quick build. My next two builds will be the 1/48 F-14 and P-38, mostly because I have heard that both of these off the charts in ease of build and quality. And I’m not leaving 1/32 behind, but the last 4 out of 5 models I built were for other people, I want to build a couple for myself without taking too much time. I look at each build as a platform to learn a new technique, so I am refining my skills with grays and greens and weathering, and the two little Tamiya kits allow me to get to the paint stage quickly. And the following builds will be two epic projects, a 1/32 Frogfoot and a 1/16 Stuart tank, both of those will be 6 months each. 6 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

True! The trumpeter 1/32 Tomcat is about 700+ parts, the Tamiya 1/48 is about 250 parts. Spitfire Posted August 23, 2020 Share Posted August 23, 2020 I must confess to building the odd 1/48 scale kit, I once built a 1/48 scale Westland Whirlwind (Classic Airframes) as I could not get one in 1/32 scale. When I complain about the umpteenth rendition of Robin Hood on film... or any other movie I saw 20-40 years ago (my wife tells me) is that they aren't making the movie for me. They are making it for the younger folks who haven't seen it yet. Likewise, while you have been staring at 1/32 scale 109's your entire adult life, I went for 35 years without touching a model. So, any new 109 is a replacement for the ones I wasn't able to build during that time. I still haven't built the latest Revell G6 nor g10. Or the Hasegawa G6 though all three have recently come into my possession. Meanwhile, how many Corsairs has Tamiya sold? True that ! As the scale gives you details roughly 3.4 times bigger than 1/48, you can pack a lot more detail, and add-on your own ad nauseam ! I think the only 1/48's I have are kits I bought years ago that weren't available at the time or still not, in 1/32 P-61-Now have the HB kit. AC-47 B-26 Hoping and praying this comes out in 1/32 B-29- No way in hell I could display this in 1/32. Tamiya Lancaster I built over 10 years ago.
