[CAT]CplSlade
So, got home from work yesterday and my wife decides to call the doc to ask where they sent my prescrips (they didn't go to my usual pharmacy) and while she was talking to them they called me from another line to tell me my swab was negative--as I knew all along. Nice how they mistook a panic attack mixed with a little sunburn, some post-nasal drip, and a tumble as a form of influenza. Oh, and they had sent my meds to a pharmacy that we've never used in 14 years of being a patient with that doctor. But hey, at least their database now shows I am a biological male who self-identifies as such and uses the pronouns he/him because that is important health data.

Administrators Clunkmeister Posted June 16, 2020 Administrators Share Posted June 16, 2020 I’m watching the medical side of it very carefully. My company weathered the first shutdown, and we still haven’t built back up again, so a second shutdown may deliver a stinging blow. If people would just use masks and stay apart a bit, all would be fine.
Bomber_County
Phase 1 of our return to the office begins 15th July (at the moment). As our office will take only 30% of our workforce it’s going to be tricky..........this period will last for 8 weeks before Phase 2, depending on no 2nd spike...........crazy times......
BlrwestSiR
They're doing a phased in approach here too. So restaurants with patio space are allowed to have sit down customers suitably spaced. There's one caveat that's been creating attention though. No singing or dancing is allowed. Guess folks won't be allowed to break into song about how great their appetizers are. 2

Yes, be extra careful, Ernie, Texas stats are not looking good, especially if you add the extra "pneumonia" deaths in the state (funny, they have quadrupled, but nooooo ... they are not Covid-19 deaths ) Masks do not protect yourself (at least those which are not FFP-2), but they protect all the others. So, if everyone wears a mask, then each one is protecting all the others. Simple logic, but the example has to come from the top ... I stop here, because this post is veering too much into politics already. Hubert 3

I wear a mask while making deliveries to Nursing Homes or Medical facilities for this very reason. It's both an extra level of protection for vulnerable people at these places, and a visual cue for people's confidence. I tend not to wear it everywhere as I find it restricts my breathing, and fogs up my glasses... This latter part is probably a good indication of how effective it actually is as a barrier method. Restaurants and Pubs are gradually opening here. We ate out two weekends ago; the place was quiet with only 20 people allowed but that suits us anyway. Professional Sports is back, with the two major Football codes operating and Soccer back within the next month. The extra Unemployment benefits arranged by the Federal Government are due to run out in September; this factor alone is probably causing more stress to the Public than the fear of the Virus. Sporadic cases spring up from time to time, but are mostly from people returning to the Country from overseas. S

The downside is people affected by other illnesses have gone untreated and those illnesses have progressed even as everything else stagnated. There have already been numerous articles on what the possible fallout will be regarding patients with cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.

Wumm
Well today I am working, only wearing a mask and gloves all day (face masks aren't compulsory here although frequently worn), although I have been wearing gloves since March. Yesterday, I was sneezed upon at a delivery address, and felt the droplets hit my face and neck... The man was holding the gate open as his son and I were carrying a large box through their courtyard, and let me have it just as I was passing by him. I resisted the overwhelming urge to let him have it right back. So I've recorded their details, advised my Employer, and am taking precautions at work to ensure that if I become sick or test positive for Covid 19, I can say with confidence that I've had no contact with others so that the Business can continue to operate. Then I have the weekend to get tested should I start to show symptoms; as it's been less that 24 hours I'm unlikely to be contagious at this point. As Australia seems to have things pretty much under control, you’re most likely safe, at least I sincerely hope so. But not wearing a mask in high-infection areas is criminally selfish, doubly so, plus unbelievably dumb, if it is for some kind of political posturing ... BlrwestSiR
Here in Toronto, they've just passed a bylaw that if you're in a public place indoors, you must wear a mask. The same applies for taking public transit. We finally got on the down side of the curve and they want to keep us there. Carl

Face coverings compulsory on public transport and in shops, etc. We also wear them anytime we're in public or clinical areas of the hospital I work in. We're down to single figure case numbers per day and want to keep it there as we ease some restrictions.

This was the advice from my Doctor as well. Queensland hasn't had a confirmed case of community transmission for a few weeks now, so it's highly unlikely I contract the Virus, even though there are certainly asymptomatic cases still about. The Australian plan was always to control the spread, and not eliminate it entirely like the New Zealand approach. As such, Australia is still allowing it's Nationals return from overseas. When they do so, the advice is to have them quarantine for 14 days, whether they show symptoms or not. Until a fortnight ago, most of our cases were from these retuning travellers. Each State has slightly different rules; New South Wales quarantines them in Hotels, and if tested positive they go to a specific Hotel to be isolated there. In Queensland, if you test positive you go to a Hospital until negative. Every other State has either Police or Military overseeing this quarantine regimen. Except Victoria. Victoria, and Melbourne specifically, is having real problems at the moment. Private Security was hired to police the quarantine, and their staff received little to no training. It transpired that security were escorting people to to go shopping, taking bribes to turn a blind eye to deliberate absences, and in some cases having sex with people who should have been completely isolated. Subsequently, Melbourne now has serious issues with community transmission after all of the hard work and sacrifices of the rest of the Australian States. Victorians are now banned from the other States except for extenuating circumstances. The populations of some 30 - 40 Melbourne suburbs are locked down for the next 5 days. Football teams that have been playing to empty stadiums in Melbourne are now relocating to other States, where the weather is warmer and limited crowds are allowed to attend matches. Pubs, Clubs and Cinemas have finally been re-opened here from last Friday. Thankfully, everything has been subdued and people seem to be sensible about these new freedoms. Here's hoping...
