Awesome birthday gift, Rob! I hope you enjoyed your day.

Thank you Phil and Bill, the Sphinx kit was really a great surprise to me. After having a great birthday, yesterday I savoured the contents of the well packed box. Definitely another league compared with the Duchess of Kingston and I'm lucky that I build her first. Only seeing that there are THREE wooden boats to ad gives me the shivers :D.

Cheers Rob

After three month of shipping, which is nobody's fault but mine, because I opted for the slowest, cheapest shipping method, this great kit arrived from Japan today.
I really like the Schnellboots appearance with the old style bridge, which later was changed to the armored version.
The kit has a halved hull of approximately 50 cm length, nice and crisp looking plastic parts, Some sheets of PE, metal barrels and some rope for the railings.
Hasta la vista Revell and Airfix, there is a new player in the pond.
The nine crew members are from three CMK sets.

Cheers Rob

Another backstory... It was January 1976 and a group of fellow midshipmen and I hopped on a 4 engine prop driven military transport for a ride from Albany NY to the Naval Air Station in Beeville, Texas. It was a long, uncomfortable ride. When spent 3 or 4 days there; the highlight of the trip was when I got a ride in the back seat of a TA-4J. The pilot did his best to get each of us to puke (I didn't).

The box is a little bruised, but everything inside is mint. Now if I can just locate an Avionix cockpit set for it...

At that time I was 2 years old, puking non stop :)

I would have been 4 and slowly realizing that my life as an only child was coming to an end (my sister was born in April '76).

Lets see: 1976, I was married and our son was three. Yup, I'm an old geezer these day. Bill looking forward to the build as I bought the kit when Hasegawa first came out with it. Thanks for the story behind the kit.

Keep 'em comin

This kit is becoming somewhat hard to find, so I snatched it at the local store.

A fantastic and easy to build kit. I did one many moons ago, added resin ERA and wheels and lots of Voyager PE, along a metal barrel and Friul's, only to destroy it later, to show how simple human needs show in the grotesque scenery of war.

Cheers Rob

Great story Bill. I was eleven and probably ruining a glue smeared cockpit of an Airfix F-4.

That looks amazing Rob, I was tinkering with the appliqué armour last night till 1AM, fits well, but it needs some extra detail. The kit is a very solid foundation for some extra detailing, might use Trumpeters track links and some spare mesh for the radiators. The rest should be easily found in the house :)

This came today:

Tamiya's French Light Tank AMX-13 in 1/35. I was browsing Tamiya models

on an online shop and saw this weird-looking tank and , as usually the case, I'm drawn

to unusual subjects. I mean, just look at this thing! The canvas cover on the turret makes

It look like it's smiling! Anyway, A look inside the box reveals that it's a simple build.

This came today;

From Tamiya, their Jagdpanzer Marder I Sd. kfz.135. in 1/35 (35370).

Another German gun on a captured chassis, this time French. A Lorraine 37L. Again, it's

one of Tamiya's more recent releases and it looks pretty good. It has their

Link and length tracks now ubiquitous with Tamiya armor kits. It's a small

vehicle, making the individual track links near microscopic, but I'll get by.

I'm working on their Panzer 38(t) right now and I'm really impressed by the outstanding

fit and engineering of the more recent Tamiya kits. The figures included with this kit

and the 38(t) look really good as well.
