ANIMALS IN OUR LIVES :)

Martinnfb

Recommended Posts

We all at some point have had or have an animal by our side. This topic is to chat about them, share some pictures, news, memories simply an animal related thread . No matter if it's your pet tarantula, fish, pup or Harvey's recently deceased velociraptor. :) They are all here to make this life easier.

First of all, congratulation to your new puppy dog Carl. 🐶

Cheers

Martin

Thanks for the thread Martin.

Here's our current menagerie.

Sunny, my bench companion.

He does like his German armour.

Next up is Fursnake who's a Spitfire fan.

She's also adept at overheating laptops and fridge surfing.

Zoe, who gave us a big scare last month but is otherwise back to normal.

The newest member is Jimmy. He's named after Sue's favourite coffee shop. Which is fitting as Zoe is named after a local bakery.

Sue thinks he might be a big boy. He's nine weeks old in two days. This is when we picked him up this afternoon.

Here's my first dog Checkers.

With Zoe:

She was an absolute diva but also one of the smartest dogs I've met.

Tasha was Sue's other cat (along with Fursnake) when we first got together.

She still misses her.

This is my dog, Gypsy.  She weighs around 105 lbs.  She's older now with a whitening muzzle.

She was born here at home.  Her sires were Tori and Zeus, and I think she got the worst traits of both.  Zeus was loyal and obedient while Tori was too intelligent and resourceful.

Here the three are together.

I loved walking all three of them at once.   Everyone always crossed to the other side of the street.

Nice Rottie! My brother in law loves them. He only takes in rescues and sometimes they've been a challenge but he doesn't give up on them. He and his fiance currently have two, one's a long haired Rottie.

In Berlin, I never had a dog, but on my island, a young Lobo Herreno, a very special breed of sheep dogs appeared one day in my garden. We had her, Nora, for six month and then she vanished. She was unbelievable intelligent and very special with these different colored eyes.

And this is Lenny, our dog, we have since he was a puppy of four weeks. He is from the local animal shelter and with us for five years. Not as intelligent as Nora, but he's just cute and great fun. He may not look like, but he's tough as well, running for umpteen kilometers through the mountains with me, even doin some extra rounds.-.

My daughter always had dogs and they were always Rotties, normally she had two and they were the softest dogs you could meet, however they were big and intimidating and had a habit of talking to you which sounded like they were growling.

We have had two cats until recently, we adopted them when we lived in Australia in 2002, one from a pets home and on from the RSPC, the first one ws Mr Maxwell, who was a stray picked up by the RSPCA, he a was very quiet but cuddley cat.

3SLRAC.jpg

The other one we named Sydney, not an inspired choice of name as we lived in Sydney.

He was a bit too clever for his own good, he was from a pet rescue centre who took him in when the couple who owned him had a baby and did not think that he would be safe with the baby, he was reputed to have some Abyssinian in him.

He had an amazing vocal range and used to "speak" to us, he was also very nosey and got into everything. He would sit next to me when I was using a hammer drill, it did not bother him at all, he was also an Olympic eater and topped out at 9.6 kg before we had to put him on a diet. He was also a great retreiver we would throw a wooden pencil and he would fetch it back to us.

He also used to help me when I was in the garage working on my motorbikes and would sit on my bench while I was modelling, when our time was up in Australia we fetched them both home with us to the UK where they lived to the grand old ages of 19 and 20. It was such a horrible time when we lost them that we could not face replacing them.

This mut, Kuji, what the best dog I ever had. She was a Sharpei,  mix. Not many wrinkles till her fat ass hit the floor. Began as my daughters pup, 6 months old. You know, I promise  bla bla bla. We'll after about 2 months she became mine. Only ran away once.  Got out several times but always found her sitting on the porch ! Had a bad habit of catching birds in her mouth. Wouldn't eat them, just like to hold them in her mouth till they died. Had a Kitten in her mouth once. Was the neighbors . Took some doing but got it out and gave back to the kids next store. I don't think that cat ever left the house after that. She also had a taste for cigarette butts !.She weighed abot 70 lbs.We had a neighbor from hell that poisoned her and she almost died. But she eventually went blind. Never stopper though . She was great with kids, a ferocious watch dag with a very nasty growl.  Before she turned 9, I had to put her down, brest cancer. One of the hardest days of my life. I can still hear her toenails on the concrete.......harv

Together known by our dog walker as the 'Two Tiny Terrorists'. Small dogs with big dog attitude!

Smart, cunning and with no end of energy although they are both starting to get on. Hate all beagles and border terriers but will run forever with our neighbour's rotties.

This is Mikey, our family's beloved poodle and companion for 18 years. Always an

entertaining little fellow; loyal and loving towards all, especially my mother. Sadly, earlier

this year, his health declined. First developing cataracts in both eyes leaving him blind then losing his hearing he became helpless and began wasting away. It was then, this past May ,that we were forced to make the dreaded decision to have him put down. We

all miss him very much. Here is a picture taken back in 2013.

Great picture, looks really inquisitive.

Making that fateful decision is the absolute worst. These are our first two dogs, so not had to do it for them yet but done it for a few of our cats down the years. I've never cried at a funeral but I'll admit to a few sobs burying some of our pets in the garden. 😪

Another dog that liked tobacco! My sister's first dog Portia (Rottie/Shepard mix) would steal a whole pack of smokes out of guests' purses, eat the tobacco and spit out the filters. I had a get together one year and right after a friend lit a cigarette, she jumped up and snatched it out of his mouth and ate it. He said all he saw were teeth.

She once drank a Mickie of peach schnapps. My sister's roommate came home to a very drunk dog.

Just last Monday we had to have our old girl of 14 years put down for one last nap.  She was suffering pretty bad with arthritis of her spine and legs, stayed in the same spot in the corner of the bedroom all day and started having incontinence issues. This pic was from 4 years ago.

Of course we have this guy that’s about 4 years old.  He can be a bit of an asshole at times.  Sit there, stair at you and push your iPhone off the night stand. The other night it was my phone, then the wife’s and then her alarm clock.

how he spends the evening. He’s doing this right now as I type this.

We live in our 3 pets' house, like most pet owners I guess :)

This is Praline, a lovely and lively little dog.

i-23SrhrN-338x450.jpg

She knows only two modes, On at 125 % or Off ...

i-4zBHdSz-600x450.jpg

Then there is our princess Maine Coon, daughter and grand-daughter of international champions, Mascha

i-CtkkJbQ-338x450.jpg

(Did you notice we chose the kitchen tiles to harmonise with her :) ?). Like all the cats of her breed, she is a very sweet, and calm animal, although enjoying night strolls where she has proven to be a ferocious predator ...

This is however her favorite mode, in her favorite armchair ...

i-jLCz6nW-338x450.jpg i-7CdS5C4-600x450.jpg

... although a nap in the sun near the swimming pool is another good option ...

i-wsFrw2B-600x450.jpg

And she is also intune with the kitchen top ...

i-w2cwgsg-600x450.jpg

And finally we have Griotte, a talkative 10-years old black european, who also loves naps on the terrace sofas ...

i-bRpCKG9-600x450.jpg

But anywhere is fine for a nap, isn't it ?

i-Tzd9WMn-600x450.jpg

Finally, I could not resist this one. When, unfortunately Patricia was in hospital recently with a very acute pneumonia following the flu, I could live my life-time fantasy : waking-up in the morning with 3 girls in their birthday suit in my bed  !
