GusMac Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Just finished this one. First Airfix kit I've built in 30+ years, so a few thoughts. I like the general engineering but I'm not keen on the soft plastic and the amount of clean-up required due to misalignment of the moulds, especially on fine details like the cockpit framing. As with some other manufacturers, the option to leave everything open means that nothing fits particularly well if you want to build things closed up. That's especially true with the engine covers. However, despite these little gripes, it was a fun build and makes a surprisingly substantial model. In fact it doesn't fit in my cabinet, so will have to sit on top. That surprised me as a 1/32 F15C fits and it's fairly sizeable. AM used included Brassin wheels, HGW belts, Maketar masks for all markings bar the stencils, RB radiator and Master rockets which are very nice. All main painting was with Tamiya acrylics. I've used Ammo paints on all my recent builds but went back to Tamiya for this as they're just a bit more robust for lots of handling. I'd also forgotten just how nicely they spray. 15 3
Bomber_County Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Congrats Gus, it’s looks absolutely stunning, love the weathering, can’t remember last time I opened an Airfix box!.... 7
DocRob Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 You built a beauty Gus, your Typhoon looks spot on in every aspect. It really pays to spray the markings as they blend perfectly. Seeing yours makes me want to build mine soon, but that has to wait as it is a long project. Cheers Rob 8
AlanG Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Love it! Love it! Love it! With a side order of Love it! I SO want to do one of these. You've done a fantastic job 7
GusMac Posted March 15, 2021 Author Posted March 15, 2021 Thanks chaps. It was good fun but beware if you do one, it takes up more real estate than you think. 6

Awesome build of this big beast in every aspect! The camo looks spot on! I‘ve one in my stash which hopefully will turn out as yours! 5
GusMac Posted March 16, 2021 Author Posted March 16, 2021 Thanks Kai. l'll post my next project tomorrow. It may look familiar to you but with a twist! 6
GusMac Posted March 16, 2021 Author Posted March 16, 2021 Thanks Harv and Ron. All your scratch work on the road train makes stuff like this appear kind of lame. 6
Old Dog Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 The Typhoon is such a brute, what's not to like 6

Landlubber Mike Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 Nice job Gus! 1/24 scale, wow! A biggun! 7
Jackster Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 Cracking job fella, certainly is a big beast when done! Cheers Kev 5
Martinnfb Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 Amazing piece of furniture, well done ! Cheers Martin 5
GusMac Posted March 18, 2021 Author Posted March 18, 2021 Thanks Martin. Unfortunately as it's too big for the cabinet and has to sit on top, it is now a piece of furniture. Or as my wife says 'another dust collector!' 4 2
Peterpools Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Gus Amazing build on one tough kit. Completely agree, when a kit is designed for open panels, deciding to actually close them is one giant night mare. So glad to see you overcame all the problems and issues. Keep 'em comin Peter 2
Spitfire Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 Looks great to me, the Typhoon is a favourite of mine. Cheers Dennis 2
