Soo.... What did you just get???

Yes, by phone, more of a heads up call. He told me the program that supports the engine, are having our positions terminated, one person will be responsible for finishing contractual obligations for the next two years (not me, but the most inept), two other are being transferred to another new program, and I am left hanging in the wind, since they no longer have the type of work I do. (Government Contract Bidding)

Even worse. he gave me no definitive date, or whether I may have a chance to apply for another program, or if they will offer me a layoff package. Just told me they will make a decision in August.

What makes it a difficult situation, I work from a home office, so positions for that situation are few and far between. I work 750 miles from the office, and 250 miles from the closest location. We moved to Murfreesboro, TN so my wife could take a promotion at her company, my company agreed that I could do my work remotely, and it has worked out well for everyone since. What makes this look bleak, is they technically can offer me a local position in Dallas and if I don't take it and move back, then they can say I refused to work and don't have to give me a layoff or allow me to get unemployment.

I am hedging my bets and starting to look at options I may have. Although, locally it looks bleak, I have a few options 45-70 min drive away. My best option for work is two hours away, which is not sustainable.

Oh good GRIEF!  Mark, I feel for you, my friend.  My wife had the same thing with the big Corporation she's been with for 35 years. 6 years ago they say everyone's job was being transferred to Austin, so they all sold their homes, bought new ones there, and moved to Austin.  A year later, they decide to close the Austin location and move them all to Bloomington, Il, to be at Corporate HQ, but they'd need to reapply for their current positions. A few didn't get picked up so they end up taking laterals into anything that provides a paycheck.  THEN, after another year they decide to move the Department back to Dallas. So now, 800 employees move back to Dallas but now they have no home, (they sold them, remember?), and are faced with buying a house in a red hot real estate market for 2-3 times what they sold their old one for.

Such is Corporate America these days. Joy, because she's got a disability, (Lupus), with all it's associated health concerns, works from home and was able to miss all the musical cities stuff.  But this kind of garbage y'all go through gets me incredibly cynical Mark, and all I can say is try for ADA. :)  It helped us when we needed it most.

And they wonder WHY there is so much stress in the world????????????  AND why guys take guns and do the things they sometimes do??????????These exec's making these life altering decisions, for guys like you, Mark, and Joy, and other families, need to take a good long hard look at reality.............. I've always said those jokers at the top are paid WAY too much money for what LITTLE they do, and the top end are NOT the company revenue makers, they are actually the drain on any company, it is the workers that generate the revenue, we have the SAME thing in Corporate Canada, not many have started at the bottom worrying and stressing hoping to keep their job..... this stuff makes me sick. I am hoping for the best for you, Mark, and keep us informed on the progress or lack there of with these guys and you situation.....more and more folks these days are working from home or not anywhere near their actual place of employment, and I'm sure you have made some contacts over the years, so go out and use them, all they can do is say no....... got my fingers crossed for you pal....

I will end up OK, I actually have a very specific set of skills that if I can find the right company to match it with, makes me employable. The only negative is that not many companies employ remote workers for these positions. I would most like to get into a govt job, but those are even harder to find.

My wife still works and makes more than me, and we will have to cut back on expenses a lot. I am planning to go sell my car to carmax tomorrow, so that will $700 a month free, plus my son starts public school next month, so that another $1000 a month free. Other monthly services will add up to about $600, so we will still be able to make it, plus I have a 6 month savings I can employ, and as a last resort, I can always tap into my 401K if things get really bad.

The thing I most regret is the house we bought a year ago for 3x the payment of our previous house.

Two additions to my militaria collection from my guy in Latvia. A early version (1936) Wehrmacht gas mask container in really great shape and a canteen cup in not really great shape. From the German 16th Army in 1945 battles.

After Jeroen tried them successfully I had to get me the complete package of AK's weathering pencils. I use normal pencils a lot for weathering, chipping and highlighting.
I'm eager to try these on the gray canvas of my actual RSO build. AK states, that you can use them dry (of course) and with water to generate streaking effects and deposit effects with them. I will report a little about the results in the RSO build log.

Cheers Rob

Nice Martin. I'd say you can never have too much of the Ammo stuff.

The Oilbrushers are great. I got the bulk set for my birthday from the missus and have been playing about with them and they are very easy to use and work well with the odourless thinners.

Well, this is a test shot. I suspect that this product it’s just a nicely packed and presented substitute for chalk and artistic oil paint. Nevertheless I picked this up as a testbed for it as well:)image.thumb.jpg.a22273b3b4a7e6e07397563a41530eee.jpg

Oh, and another thing: Has anyone done a comparison of the AK pencils to standard watercolor pencils?

Nope, I haven't any, but I will use the AK pencils on my RSO and will write about my experiences. It is planned to use them 'dry' and streaked with water. Maybe I will add some thoughts to how they compare to normal artist pencils, wich I normally use.

Cheers Rob

But it came with this...

Had to take the pair of them. F-16 is complete, but, no instruction book dangit.

No clue what Air Force that is. Oh wait! Singapore and USAF..  I maybe smell Polish Air Force version. The natural version for a freedom loving soul like me.
