I stopped by my LHS as they're open for curbside service today and used the gift card my wife gave me for Christmas. I keep running of storage space for paints and had been looking for more of the paint racks made by Ammo. I found some online but the shipping costs effectively doubled their price. I called the LHS to see if they could get them. They said they had a couple of each in stock! They're weren't listed yet on the website and I was the only person who had asked about them.

I bought a pair of the Tamiya/Mr Color/AK Real Color size and after some thought, one of the Ammo/Vallejo ones. I decided I had had enough of my boys' idea of putting the paint away when they're done:

These are some of the best paint racks in terms of space efficiency, capacity and  value (shipping notwithstanding) in my opinion.

Still can't believe I have six already and they're effectively full.

Those look nice Carl.  I was searching for some paint racks and this didn't come up in my search.  I ended up getting a few from Hobbyzone along with their stand racks and really like them.

Do the Ammo ones you bought have some kind of base in case you aren't going to mount them on the wall?

Someone (not Smitty) deserves to have their a** handed to them over that one.

For starters, fragile light boxes should ship in the centre of pallets, with the harder rigid cartons on the outside providing integrity for the load. Secondly, there are angles that should be used underneath strapping, to spread the force along the corners and stop damage immediately under the strapping. They're a couple cents each, or you can make some with an old box and a cutter.

I don't fault the sender at all. This was the US Postal Service.

Mike, they can be freestanding. The bottoms are completely flat if a bit narrow. The one I have for Vallejo paints just sits on my bench as it's for my boys to use. I've had them sit on the floor in the past.

Those are really nice looking.  A little wider than the Hobbyzone ones I picked up and thus can hold more bottles.  You can buy a base for the Hobbyzone one which I use to hold taller bottles, and I have them sitting on one of their open space modules where I have my bigger bottles of paints - Tamiya spray cans, jars of Zero Paints, etc.

If I remember correctly, the Ammo ones are about the same price as the Hobbyzone ones. Unfortunately Hobbyzone no longer ships to Canada from the US and ordering from Poland pretty much doubles the price. The shelves are around $20-30 depending on where you get them from. They're made by Hobbyzone too.

The Tamiya version holds 54 bottles to a rack and the Vallejo ones 60. They have one for the Ammo/Mig washes as well which would also fit the Xtreme Metal bottles. I may get one of those next.

Took a gamble on some MIG extra thin as BNA was out of Tamiya extra thin.  Quite smelly.  will see how it works.  Got some CA and another set of tweezers, too...  heady stuff!  Oh...  and some decals.

Let us know how well it works Gaz. Always nice to have another option.

Carl

well....  it's holding on all of these Meng bolt heads nicely:

LakJqR.jpg

It has a nice, very fine tipped long bristle brush, too.  I read somewhere else, someone said it smelled like TET.

Never used TeT...  but I remember the smell from my childhood...  I just can't remember where.

Glue sniffing Gaz? Was a popular pastime here in Scotland in the 80s - did wonders for sales of UHU

Scent aside...  I think I've found my new favorite glue.  Seems to grip faster than Tamiya Extra thin, and hold stronger.

Edward, our youngest broke the anntena on his RC car controller. Not a big deal as it still worked, just looked a bit...limp.  Then he over discharged it and blew up the LiPo battery it uses. So I found the same one in stock at a nearby RC hobby shop and ordered a new one for him. Which he had to pay for. I took advantage and padded the order with some stuff for me to get free shipping.

Stuff for the Firefly currently on the bench.

I've never built a T-54( or is it a T-55?) before and at $70 Loonies, hard to pass up.

I can't believe how crammed the box is though.

Lastly, I ordered an LED light for one of my sci Fi kits.

Tools, tools, toooooooools, I rewarded myself for my actual build and self promised better rigging. The tweezers will help doing that.
I added a razor saw, to have something between a scalpel and my fine saw for resin and possibly future woodwork along with a mini mitre tool.

Cheers Rob

Wowsers! That box was loaded with sprues! Did it burst when you opened it?
