Had a nice day today.....shopping with Mom and more.

Because of her vision loss she can't drive any longer...so, I've been helping

her with that. Among our stops..Hobby Lobby, where I was able to pick

up some items. A set of POSCA paint markers in various metallic colors and

a spray can of Mr. Surfacer 1000. After that we visited a Hobby Shop near

the restaurant we were going to.....we had never seen it open before..decided

to go in. Well, it was like entering a cavern; very dark and disorganized but

I did pick up a model and a couple of bottles of paint. The model is an

older Tamiya release (1992) their; U.S. MARINE AAVP7A1 W/UGWS (35159).

After that we had a late lunch. It was nice to go to an actual hobby shop

for a change and not ordering online while sitting on my couch in front of the

TV. The kit is older, but looks OK BTW.

I arrived back to Perth to find a couple of parcels waiting for me ... One from my favourite Japanese retailer via Fed-Ex and one out of Hong Kong ...

IMG_9400.thumb.jpeg.91266f51b335b6b9107ec33f8dfbad2f.jpeg

Lets open that one first ... a small box with 2 sets of the same 3D printed AM ...

IMG_9401.thumb.jpeg.edbd620d2dfe367597468d40c545efeb.jpeg

This is a 1/16 KwK 37 - 75mm L/24 (main armament of early Pz.Kpfw IV's) - designed for the Heng Long RC vehicles ... and will be specifically, in this case, acting as a conversion set for my Trumpeter 1/16 F2 to back date it into an F1

Detail is good enough in this scale ...

IMG_9405.thumb.jpeg.2127d995120eae6a6f0db1730af87178.jpeg

The MG barrel has snapped off the other one - but it doesn't matter as they will both be replaced by turned brass items anyway. It comes complete with mantlet, view port covers etc ... and the radio antenna guard ... No instructions though!!

IMG_9404.thumb.jpeg.0e3a107d3df9611c2544a1290bad335e.jpeg

Minimal clean up required ... although this detail inside the barrel doesn't look like rifling?!

IMG_9402.thumb.jpeg.a4df6ae5768ccacc5c637e176d81cf23.jpeg

Next ... I was back to that Japanese store I bought a few kits from previously ...

The big box was well stuffed with packing paper ... and these kits were double bubble wrapped ... it seems they actually care about the condition that the items arrive at their destination ...

IMG_9406.thumb.jpeg.bc501292d3859fdcc9f3ceb563f88b4b.jpeg

IMG_9408.thumb.jpeg.569d73308a4bdc1f38dcd33e0f4901b3.jpeg

All prices were paid in my local currency (AUD) so no conversion fees ... Some prices were slightly higher than what I paid the last time ... The Tamiya Mosquito was $203 AUD instead of $187 (and I think that is a reflection of currency rates - specifically USD / JPY rates)... but that's still better than the $340-$360 you'd pay retail for it here ... Try finding a brand new Hase' Bf.109F-4 for $45 AUD or equivalent ... or a Hase' Stuka for $71!! ... How about Tamiya Corsairs? - $127 AUD for the -1a and $138 for the -1d ... Shipping? ... add an extra 18+ % and you're still lower than any Australian outlet - even with discounted items!!

Who doesn't love the look of the Sukhoi Flanker family? Say what you will about how capable it is, but they sure made a great looking plane with that one.

A few years ago I picked up the Minibase Su-33 Sea Flanker. Talk about an incredibly detailed kit. I think the ejection seat is something like 15 pieces of plastic and the harness is another 20 or so bits of PE. Anyways, I was looking at burner cans for it and some of the new 3D printed MLG legs. Turns out Minibase make their own set and it was cheaper than buying separate sets for both.

This set takes the kit to another level.

The landing gear has all the wires and hoses printed in place.

The NLG mud guards are here and they give you extras just in case.

PXL_20230626_184126587.thumb.jpg.eaddc5f59f43af9e43b154456c474036.jpg

They include a pilot as well.

PXL_20230626_184321062.thumb.jpg.4821e728db846dce7fa64cb235ec91b4.jpg

If you don't want to use the pilot, a printed harness is included as well. That will probably save a lot of grief, and eyesight.

The burner cans are great too.

PXL_20230626_184415318.jpg

The instructions tell you where to snip off all the supports and in what order.

Even the painting guide is detailed.

I'm seriously considering getting a second kit after seeing this set.

Oh, I also got some bits for my big Tiger.

Yesterday, I received decals for my McLaren made by the Italian company TB Decals, including tabaco ads. Interesting though is the different interpretation of the bright red color. TB Decals to the left seems to orientate on the Zero Paint red in the middle. The Fujimi decals on the right are somewhat darker. Not being an expert, but evaluating photos, the truth would have been between them with a slight bias towards Zero Paints.

Cheers Rob

Rob,  This is one of my favorites F1 cars.  I hear you on the colour of the paint - hard to match!  Now if I could find one of the Orange and Blue GULF Porche 917s....

Incredible detail Carl, did you remortgaged your house? Asking for a friend :)

It will probably be one of my next builds, Chris.
Your Gulf Porsche 917K shouldn't be too hard to find. I know, because I thought about buying one for example here in Spain:
Fujimi 126166: Car scale model kit 1/24 scale - Porsche 917K John Wyer Automotive Team sponsored by Gulf #2 - Jackie Oliver (GB) + Pedro Rodriguez (MX) - 1000 Kms Monza 1971 (ref. FJ126166) | SpotModel
Or in Japan:
Porsche 917K '71 Monza 1000km Winner | HLJ.com

Ron

My sincerest condolences on your loss. Losing a child is so very hard to deal with and unfortunately, my wife and I know all too well.

Finally, after all these years, it's here; my Trumpeter Devastator. So glad I purchased the kit from the Squadron on a pre orde back in March, as the price was surely right: $89.

I made myself a promise, I was not going to open the box until I have all the hopefully soon to be released AM, from both Quinta and Eduard. 🤞
